Doorway Chin-Up Bars

Doorway chin up bars are apparatuses which allow users to grip and pull up so that the chin exceeds the height of the bar. This ongoing process builds, among other things, abdominal strength. The primary development, however, lays in the upper arms, specifically the bicep and tricep muscle groups. The doorway chin up bar (or doorway chinning bar, as it is also called) features a heavy gauge bar of reinforced steel, aluminum, or even wood, sometimes encased in smooth material like rubber, plastic, or perhaps neoprene for easy grip; a fulcrum or set of fulcrums for tight wedged support in 28”, 30”, or 32” door frames; and a lift-out design so that the device can be easily stored away (for those that aren’t removable, screw-in mounts provide a permanent fit for the doorway pullup bar, depending on the frequency of use and personal preference). These chin-up bars typically hold up to 300 lbs, some even 360 lbs, depending on the particular make.

Many doorway chin-up bars have multiple applications. Curl up exercises can be achieved by folding legs over the bar, wrapping hands behind the head, and flexing the body upward so that the elbows come in contact with the knees.

Another exercise could the body stretch, which entails hanging on by the feet and, well, stretching down in an attempt to touch the floor with the fingertips. A reverse of that might be, for shorter individuals, to grip and hang down so that the toe tips touch the floor, or, for taller users, bending the knees so the stress centers in the arms, which strength as time goes on. These activities create a lot of tension, of course, and require tremendous door strength. Training bar use for exercise activity must not be over-exerting, otherwise injury can occur, not only from the over-exertion, but from the bar falling off the doorframe while exercises are being conducted.

Other exercises can be performed with the use of the chin-up bar without the device being applied to a doorframe. Sit-ups and push-ups, for example, are among the common possibilities. These are, of course, less stressful on the body and produce no tension on the doorframe, so the risk of injury is minimal.

Doorway chin-up bars are available throughout the Web at a variety of exercise-oriented sites. Several different types of chin-up bars can be found, depending on what an individual wants. Many brands exist, too. The Body Solid doorway chin-up bar, one of the most well-known, for example, has a stylish flair and features an extended bar to accommodate quite a bit of head clearance. The last thing users wish to encounter is to bang their heads upon every pull-up.

Whichever type serves best is the type to buy. Information on product specifications provides excellent assistance in helping those interested to choose the right one for them.
