Weight Racks

Weight racks are just as important as benches and do serve a viable purpose: storing free weights and dumbbells when not in use. Organized storage is necessary for weight maintenance so that weight-lifters know what and where weights are available. Weight racks and weight trees also prevent people from tripping, which can cause serious damage for those not paying attention. The weight rack eliminates that concern by getting weight plates and dumbbells up off the floor, which is where they shouldn’t be.

Two types of racks exist: the Weight plate wrack (free weight racks, or weight “trees”) and hand weight rack (standard dumbbell racks). Some weight benches also have built-in racks. A flat weight bench with weight racks, otherwise known as a multi purpose weight bench, is ideal for home gyms where space may be limited. These are similar to squat racks, which are bench and storage racks in one; that is, these racks have weights affixed (although weigh amount can be adjusted) and accommodates a weight-lifter with a seat or open space to lift. Homemade weight racks are also possible and provide a means for saving money and facilitates personal needs and preferences. For example, a wall can be transformed into a vast weight storage display by welding or screwing thick metal weight branches to the wall. This produces space and at the same time offers convenient access to all weights, provided that they aren’t up too high. Another fine example of a makeshift weight rack for a home gym is that which is constructed out of metal and/or solid wood in the size and shape that facilitates space. The neoprene weight rack is lightweight and therefore convenient for carrying.

Three prominent and therefore popular makes for weight racks and trees are Nautilus, PowerTec, and Body Solid. Weight rack storage capacity with these brands ranges up to 1,000 lbs or more and are balanced by means of the even distribution of weight, not only the weight that these racks are designed to hold, but their own inherent weight. Many fine, durable weight racks are available through these and other manufacturers.

Anyone interested in finding a weight rack for either personal or commercial use can browse and compare online. So many sites featuring weight-lifting equipment provide a variety of styles and makes from which to choose. Buying a weight rack is contingent on personal preference as well as need and the surrounding environment in which it is to be placed.
